British Empire Medal & Others
The British Empire Medal
(Medal of the Order of the British Empire for Meritorious Service)
is a British Medal awarded for meritorious military service worthy of recognition by the Crown
They Gave Me a Medal
I RETURNED FROM THE GULF, I’D CHANGED IN MYSELF,
THERE WAS SOMETHING NOT RIGHT, EFFECTED MY HEALTH.
I’D BEEN PART OF A KILLING, THAT DIDN’T SEEM RIGHT,
BUT THEY GAVE ME MEDAL, FOR MY PART IN THE FIGHT.
THEY HONOURED MY ACTIONS, FOR FULFILLING THEIR PLAN,
BUT I’M NOT LIKE I WAS, I’M NOT THE SAME MAN.
IT’S EASY TO KILL, BECOME MAD AND INSANE,
IT’S NOT EASY TO LIVE, WITH THE TORMENT AND PAIN.
THE ENEMY KILLED, THEY COULDN’T WIN IF THEY TRIED,
BUT I MUST STILL FIGHT, THE ENEMY INSIDE.
SO THIS MEDAL THEY GAVE ME, FOR THE ROLE I PLAYED,
WAS FOR PART OF THE KILLING OF THOUSANDS WE SLAYED.
WELL THAT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD, MY STOMACH CAN SETTLE,
MY REWARD FOR MY ACTIONS, WAS SOME MOULDED METAL.
WELL I’M SORRY, IT JUST SEEMS, THERE’S SOMETHING I LACK.
INSTEAD OF THE MEDAL, MY LIFE, I WANT BACK.........................
